Creating/Editing layouts within XVCapture/DCV does not create/edit the layouts within XVWeb. When creating custom layouts, the same layout must be created in both XVWeb and XVCapture in order for your images to display correctly in XVWeb. If you need to create/edit layouts within XVWeb, please refer to Creating Custom Layouts - XVWeb.
The following steps will walk you through creating a custom layout in XVCapture/DCV from scratch. Before beginning the walkthrough, please remember that the tooth associations within each tile are very important. If you are creating a layout within XVCapture/DCV to match an already existing layout in XVWeb, it is vital that each tile's tooth associations match to the XVWeb layout exactly.

Navigating to the Progression Editor

- Locate and double-click Progression Editor.exe within that root folder to open the Progression Editor.
Creating your Layout
- Click on Create New Progression in the upper left of the Progression Editor.
- Name your progression within the Progression Name field (optionally, provide a description of the layout in the Progression Description field).
- Select Add New Shot in the upper left.
- Select the desired tooth associations from the populated chart (either by individually clicking each tooth, or click-dragging over multiple at once).
- Specify the direction the sensor will be positioned in the patient's mouth when capturing this shot. "Top of the sensor" refers to the side of the sensor opposite of the wire.
- Click OK.
- Repeat steps 3-6 for each tile needed in the layout.
- It is best practice to create the Shots in the order they will be taken. The order can be adjusted later by highlighting the Shot needing moved, then clicking either Move Selected Shot Up or Move Selected Shot Down in the left side bar.

Locating and using your new layout
- If any instance of XVCapture/DCV from this installation was open, the program must be exited and then reopened before the new progression will be available.
- The progression can be located and used during layout selection by scrolling down the list of layouts after selecting the imaging extension that will be used during image capture.
Copying Layouts to Other Workstations
Custom layouts are install specific. If each workstation at a practice has individual local installations, the following steps will need to be followed to copy them to the other workstations.
Once the layout has been created on one workstation, you can easily copy and paste the layout file to other workstations by following the below steps:
- On the workstation where the progression was created, right-click on XVCapture's desktop icon and select Open File Location
- Navigate to the Bin folder
- Within the Bin folder locate the layout you just created (should end in “.progression”), then right-click it and choose Copy
- You can now paste this progression file/files to one of the following: an email to yourself, shared public folder on network if available, or a flash drive (consult with office IT if needed)
- Once you are on another workstation and have access to the email, folder, or flash drive, you can paste the layout/.progression file into the Bin folder on that workstation.
