Overview
XVWeb has three methods of automatic image enhancement available, alongside an Image Quality Wizard that can be used manually. All three methods of automatic enhancement can be selected per-location, by specifying the Enhancement Mode from the Location Settings menu in XVWeb.
Dynamic: Automatically determines and applies the most appropriate enhancement for the selected series, based on the images' base quality. Dynamic enhancements are completely separate from custom enhancements (real-time filters), cannot be modified, and are entirely prescriptive.
Favorite: Automatically applies a "favorited" enhancement. Existing enhancements can be marked as "Favorite" with a star in the Series Enhance > Custom panel. Favorite Enhancements are saved to the specific Location, and will auto-apply to all images regardless of hardware or modality restrictions when Location Settings "Always Show Enhanced Images" is on or inherited as enabled from the site setting.
Auto: Equivalent to XVWeb's previous method of image filtering, where custom enhancements (real-time filters) will automatically apply to images based on the filter's restrictions. Dynamic enhancements can still be used on a per-series basis by manually selecting Dynamic Enhance from the left toolbar.
IMPORTANT: If a practice does not have Location Management enabled or otherwise has zero locations created within their XVWeb site, the Enhancement Mode will default to Auto.
Changing which Enhancement Mode is used by a location requires Location Management to be active, and for at least one location to exist within the Location Management menu.
How each Enhancement Mode interacts with "Always show Enhanced Images"
If Always show Enhanced Images is enabled within Site Settings and the equivalent Location Setting is set to On or Inherit:
Dynamic: All non-color, x-ray images will be automatically dynamically enhanced upon viewing. The Enhance Series button will still remain functional if needing to temporarily apply Enhance > Auto or Enhance > Custom, or remove the enhancement on a per-series basis. Custom enhancements (real-time filters) will not automatically apply.
Favorite: The enhancement marked as favorite for the selected location will auto-apply to any applicable images. Dynamic and Series Enhance can both be used manually per series to temporarily apply a dynamic or standard enhancement in place of the favorited enhancement.
Auto: Custom enhancements (real-time filters) will automatically apply to images based on the filter's restrictions. Dynamic and Series Enhance can both be used manually per series to temporarily apply a dynamic or different custom enhancement in place of the automatically applied custom enhancement.
Differences between Enhancement Types
XVWeb has two types of enhancements: Dynamic and Custom.
Dynamic Enhancements are enhancements developed by our Engineers to be a one-size-fits-most solution, and cannot be modified, restricted, or changed in any way. Dynamic Enhancements can be automatically applied by setting Enhancement Mode to Dynamic, or manually applied by clicking Dynamic Enhance.
Custom Enhancements can be created, modified, and filtered so they will only be available for a defined subset of images. Custom Enhancements can be automatically applied by setting Enhancement Mode to Auto, or manually applied using the Series Enhance tool.
The Dynamic Enhancement Mode utilizes Dynamic Enhancements, while Favorite and Auto utilize Custom enhancements.
Image Quality Wizard
Regardless of the Enhancement Mode in use, the Image Quality Wizard can be used to show a side-by-side preview of any applicable enhancement and applies the selected enhancement to the full series when selected.
The Image Quality Wizard is accessed by clicking on any image in the series to bring it to focus, then selecting the Image Quality button from the bottom toolbar.
When selected, all custom enhancements that can apply to the focused image will show a preview, as well as show the new dynamic and "Skylark" enhancements only available within the Image Quality Wizard.
After selecting an enhancement, that enhancement will temporarily apply to all images within the series being viewed.
If you would like the selected enhancement to always apply when viewing that series, select Series Enhance > Save from the left toolbar. This will override the Enhancement Mode in use for that series in particular.
FAQ
I want a specific Skylark Enhancement to apply to all images when I use the dynamic enhance button, rather than it automatically decide for me - is this possible?
No, Skylark Enhancements are pre-configured inputs of the "Dynamic Enhance" that can't be modified directly.
Can any of the skylark enhancements be set to a specific device?
No, Skylark Enhancements cannot be restricted to specific devices or modalities.
What drives custom enhancements appearing in Image Quality Wizard? When viewing a series of images, only 4 of the 7 custom enhancements we have created appear in the wizard, but the other 3 do not.
All enhancements that can apply to that image (based on Modality/Mfg/Model) will appear in the Image Quality Wizard, along with the new Skylark enhancements. Enhancements restricted to a modality and/or mfg/model different from the image you are viewing will not appear in the Image Quality Wizard.
If we marked a filter as a favorite, can we see which filters are favorited for each location somewhere?
Not currently as a whole, but when logged into a particular location you can see the favorited one under Series Enhance > Custom. Favorited enhancements are denoted by a filled in star icon.
Can the dynamic enhancements/skylark enhancements be modified?
No, they are just prescriptive.
When enabling the Site Setting "Always show Enhanced Images," Dynamic enhancements are applying instead of the filters we have created for our devices. How do we change this?
This would occur if the Enhancement Mode setting under Location Settings is set to Dynamic. Changing this to Auto will allow your custom filters to automatically apply instead.
