Creating/Editing layouts within XVWeb does not create/edit the layouts within XVCapture/DCV. When creating layouts, the same layout must be created in both XVWeb and XVCapture, if XVCapture is in use by your practice. If you need to create/edit layouts within XVCapture/DCV, please refer to Creating Custom Layouts - XVCapture/DCV.
The following steps will walk you through creating a custom layout in XVWeb from scratch. Before beginning the walkthrough, please remember that the tooth associations within each tile are very important. If you are creating a layout within XVWeb to match an already existing layout in XVCapture/DCV, it is vital that each tile's tooth associations match the tooth associations in the respective XVCapture/DCV layout exactly.
XVWeb utilizes a combination of tooth association, modality, and number of images in the series to determine what layout to display captured images in.
If you'd prefer to implement a predefined layout into XVWeb instead, please see Predefined Layouts for XVWeb and XVWeb Capture.
Navigating to the Layout Editor
- Log into XVWeb and view any patient, then open any image or series of images
- Click the Layouts icon on the right side of the page and select Edit
- In the Layouts side bar that populates, click New layout. If creating a new layout from scratch, select New Empty Layout. If wanting to start from a common template, select the template you would prefer to start with.
- Selecting New Empty Layout brings you to an empty Layout Editor page.
Creating Tiles
- Click on New Tile from the right-hand toolbar to get started.
- When creating a tile, you will have a variety of options:
-
Tile Type - Required Selection. Image is selected by default.
- Image creates a tile that would contain an x-ray or intraoral photo, using modality and tooth assocation to determine which x-ray or image displays in that tile. Always used when creating a layout for x-rays to display in.
- Graphic allows you to upload a custom image that remains static in the layout, and will always appear (such as an office logo)
-
Text is white text with a few options such as font size, style, and family. Seldom used, only needed if wanting specific text to appear within the layout as an "image."
- X - moves the tile on the X axis (higher numbers are further to the right, lower are to the left). Does not need to be changed manually.
- Y - moves the tile on the Y axis (higher numbers move the tile down, lower numbers move the tile up) Does not need to be changed manually.
- Width - makes the tile you have selected wider or thinner. Does not need to be changed manually.
- Height - makes the tile you have selected taller or shorter. Does not need to be changed manually.
-
Modality - Required Selection. The type of image the tile is for (IO is for Bitewing and PA x-rays, PX is for Panos, etc.) See DICOM Modality Abbreviations and Their Functions – Apteryx for a list of modalities and their meanings if needed.
- For x-ray layouts where a sensor will be used to capture images, IO should always be used.
- For layouts where an Intraoral Camera will be used, XC should always be used.
-
Progression Instance - This is the layout capture sequence when using XVWeb Capture. Assigning 1 will indicate that it is the first tile that will be readied during image acquisition. A tile with progression instance 2 will be the next tile to ready (and so on).
Additionally, progression instance is necessary when using the import tool if you intend for your images to fill specific tiles in a layout. An example is an ortho layout where images must appear in a specific order regardless of modality.- If you do not use XVWeb Capture, and are not creating an ortho layout, Progression Instance should be left blank.
-
Teeth - Required Selection. Specifies which teeth will be in the shot and determines which image will display in that tile based on tooth association. Teeth can be selected or deselected by clicking them individually, or by clicking, holding, and dragging across a section you'd like to select or deselect.
-
Tile Type - Required Selection. Image is selected by default.
- Once all required selections have been set, click Create to create the tile.
- The tile can then be moved/positioned where needed by clicking, holding, and dragging the tile. You can also use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in if needed.
- Repeat the steps in this section to create each tile.
Example tile creation process, using the above steps:
If GIF is too small to read on your display, right click the GIF and open in a new tab.
