Export CBCTs as DICOM Format in Common 3rd Party Software – Apteryx

In order for XVWeb 3D to display a CBCT, it must be saved as a DICOM format. For 3D images, a DICOM format will usually consist of a folder containing multiple individual files with the DCM file extension. Listed below are some commonly used 3rd party imaging software, where clicking on the program's name will populate a list of instructions detailing how to export a CBCT as a DICOM formatted image folder.

Acteon

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the patient history, right click on the thumbnail image of the CBCT scan you want to export, and select Export DICOMDIR
In the window that appears, browse to the Desktop, click on the folder on the Desktop that was created with the patient's name on it (step 1 of these instructions), and click the Select Folder button
Once the "DICOMDIR created successfully" message appears, click OK
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Anatomage/Invivo/TxStudio

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the scan in Anatomage/Invivo/TxStudio
Once scan is open, go to File > Save As (not Save As Project)
Choose Multi-file DICOM with .dcm extension and click OK
Select the folder on the Desktop that was created with the patient's name on it (step 1 of these instructions) as the location to save the scan
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Carestream CS3D

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the CBCT scan in the CS3D software and click on the Export Volume button (it looks like a skull with an arrow pointing to the right)
Browse to and select the folder you created on the desktop with the patient's name on it as the Output Directory.
*Note: This is important. You need to select the folder with the patient's name because CS3D will place several hundred DICOM files in the folder.
Make sure Select axial matrix size is set to whichever value is labeled Same as source
Make sure Select slice thickness is set to whichever value is labeled Same as source and leave Create isotropic volume unchecked
Under Output file format, choose CT (one file per slice)
Under Select compression, choose Uncompressed
Make sure Anonymize and Create DICOMDir are both unchecked
Click Export
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

i-CAT Vision

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Click on the patient’s name in i-CAT Vision
Click on CT in the area directly underneath the patient name list to bring up the reconstructed CBCT scan
Once the reconstructed CBCT scan is loaded, go up to the Tools menu, choose Export DICOM, and select Original Study
In the window that appears, click the Browse button and then browse to your Desktop and select the folder you created that has the patient’s name on it and then click Save
For the export options, choose Single File and Uncompressed
Click the OK or Export button and the CBCT will be exported to the folder you created with the patient’s name on it in single-file DICOM format
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

J. Morita (iDixel)

Open the iDixel software to patient's volume and highlight the image you wish to export
Select the icon of the arrow pointing to the disk from the Tools area and choose Save to DICOM File and then choose Axial Image
Pick the slice thickness (preferably to match the interval) and click OK
For the Accession Number prompt, no changes are needed, simply click OK
The DICOM files will be exported to the folder you have previously established as your Exports folder from this software. Many times, you will find a shortcut to this folder on the Desktop
When the DICOM export is complete, a message will appear to let you know
Locate the folder where the DICOM files for the patient were saved
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

NewTom - NNT

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
With the scan open in the NewTom - NNT software:
1. Go to the File menu
2. Choose Save in DICOM format
3. Choose Sequence of Axial images...
4. Choose 512x512 Matrix
For the export location, select the folder on the Desktop that was created with the patient's name on it (step 1 of these instructions) and click OK
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Owandy

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the Owandy software, type in the patient's name and click Find
After the patient's information appears, click on the [mouth] icon located on the left-hand side of the screen
Locate the CBCT scan you wish to export, right click on the 3D image, and select Export DICOM
For the export location, select the folder on the Desktop that was created with the patient's name on it (step 1 of these instructions) and click OK
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture [using CT Importer] recommended)

Planmeca Romexis

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Click on the PATIENTS ICON in Romexis to select the volume you want to export and load the scan
Go to OUTPUT > EXPORT VOLUME
Select the following settings:
1. File & Format Options: Set of Single Frame DICOM Files
2. Resolution: Original
3. Overlay options: (NO CHECK MARKS)
4. Export 3D Volume to: Folder
5. Viewer Options: (NO CHECK MARKS. VIEWER IS NOT NEEDED)
6. Folder: Use the “…” box at the far right. Browse for the folder you created on your desktop with the patient’s name. Select that as your export location
7. File Name: Labeling your files is very beneficial. Please include the Patient Name, Study Type information (example: Mandible/Maxilla/TMJ/etc.) and date, if possible
Select OK to export the DICOM files
Once completed, return to the Desktop & locate the file you created with the patient’s name
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

PreXion

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the PreXion software and right click on the patient's name and go to Study Management
In the menu that appears, choose Download Study
You will be prompted to choose the location to save the DICOM files. Select the folder you created on your Desktop with the patient's name and click OK
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Rayscan SMARTDent

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the SMARTDent software and in the search tab, select the correct dates, type in the patient’s name, and search for the CT volume in question.
Click on the CT modality badge on the image thumbnail, select Export and find a good location for it
Next, click on the Export tab and select the correct patient information. On the right-hand side, you will have different exporting options. If you need the media type, select USB. For Detail Path, click on the magnifying glass button and a pop-up will now appear for the save location. Select the folder that you made on the desktop and click OK. Type in the patient’s name next to Volume Label and for the Image Format select DICOM. Then, click on Export.
Once the export reaches 100%, you will get a pop-up stating it is complete. Click OK.
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Sirona SIDEXIS 4

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the CBCT volume (3D Exam) in SIDEXIS 4
Click the Output button at the top of the SIDEXIS 4 window
Choose DICOM Exam Export
In the window that comes up, click the Settings tab at the top and uncheck everything except Include main volume
Click on the Export tab at the top and make sure the Anonymization box is not checked. Click the button with three dots on it (which is a Browse button), browse to and double-click on the folder you created on the Desktop that has the patient’s name on it, and click Save
Click OK to begin the DICOM export
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Sirona SIDEXIS XG

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Open the patient's CBCT in SIDEXIS XG
Go to Image menu at the top >Export DICOM > Third Party Volume (DICOM)
A preview of the CBCT volume will load. Once the preview displays, click OK.
Select .dcm
Select the folder you wish to export the DICOM files to. Click the button with three dots (...), browse to the Desktop, and double-click the name of the folder you created that has the patient's name on it
Click Save
Click OK to begin the DICOM export
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)

Vatech Ez3D-i

Create a new folder on the Desktop (right-click anywhere you don't already have an icon and go to New > Folder) and name the folder with the patient's name
Launch the Ez3D-i software and load the patient's scan
From the Main Menu, choose Export
Ensure that the following buttons and boxes are selected:
1. Local Disk
2. DCM Files
3. Compression should be set to Uncompressed
  (if Uncompressed is not an option, select Lossless)
4. The Viewer box should unchecked
Click Save
Browse to the Desktop and locate the folder you created that has the patient's name on it and select that folder
The DICOM files will be exported and you will be notified when the export is complete
Import the image/folder into the appropriate Apteryx Software (XVCapture using CT Importer recommended)
