When adjusting an image, or editing an image's information, you may end up with an un-edited "original" image alongside a "derived" edited image. This is to preserve an unedited original image for record keeping. If this feature is not desired, there is a setting that can be adjusted to, instead, overwrite an image with its edited version. The following steps will guide you to the appropriate setting, and will explain the options available.
- Open XVCapture or DCV
- From the main window, select Advanced User Tools
- Click on Preferences (default password is AKRON)
- From the side menu, select Images and Image Handling
- The first option on the right, under General Image Based Options, is Modified Image Saving. The available drop-down options are as follows:
- Never save modified images
Any changes made to an image are temporary and will not be saved. - Allow saving of modified images
Any changes made, and saved, will overwrite the original image permanently. - Allow saving modified images as derivative images
Any time an image has been changed and saved, a new derivative image will be created. - Allow saving modified images as derivative images (allow derivative overwrites until forwarded)
Changes will create (and update) a single derivative image. Once forwarded, subsequent image changes will create a new derivative image. - Allow saving modified images as derivative images (allow derivatives to be overwritten)
Changes to an image will create a single derivative image. All subsequent changes will update the single derivative image permanently.
- Never save modified images
- A checkbox below the drop-down will require manual saving of any changes to images. (Any changes not saved will be discarded)
