One of the main benefits of Real-Time Filters (RTF) is that they do not permanently alter the images that they adjust, though an apparent downside is that they affect images from every source equally by default. It does not matter what sensor the image was captured using, by default, an active RTF will apply to them all equally. For dental practices that use multiple brands of sensors, this can cause headaches, and can even deter the use of RTFs entirely. This is where Real-Time Filter Rules can make a world of difference by limiting the scope of where the active RTF will apply, or even what RTF will be active depending on which image is being viewed.
Below are the basic steps for accessing and setting up Real-Time Filter Rules within XrayVision DCV or XVCapture. You can follow these quick links to skip down to Navigating to RTF Rules, Creating New Rules, or Editing/Deleting Old Rules.
- Open XVCapture/DCV and select View Images
- Search for a Patient and open an image or images
- Either double-click on an image, or single-click an image to select it and then click on Image Enhancements
- Note: On this screen underneath the image is a section called Image Information. You may want to take note of a few pieces of information listed down there for each image type you want to restrict the RTF to. Specifically the following:
Image Tab - Acquisition Date, Modality, and Teeth
Misc Tab - Manufacturer, Manufacturer Model, Photometric, and Resolution
- Note: On this screen underneath the image is a section called Image Information. You may want to take note of a few pieces of information listed down there for each image type you want to restrict the RTF to. Specifically the following:
- In the upper right-hand corner of the window will either show a box with the currently active RTF listed, or the phrase "<No Real-Time Filter>". Click this box and select Image Filter Options then Real-Time Filter Rules Options
- The Real-Time Filter Rules window will populate, where new rules can be created and old rules can be edited or deleted.
- To create a new rule, click the New Rule button at the bottom of the window
- Select the Real-Time Filter to be limited at the top, fill in the desired restrictions you want applied to it, and then click OK. Below are some brief explanations of what each restriction does:
- Manufacturer restrictions - This restricts the RTF to only apply to a specific brand of sensor, but will still affect all models under that brand (e.g., DEXIS Titanium and DEXIS Platinum would not be distinguished against) [use Manufacturer from Misc Tab]
- Model restrictions - This restricts the RTF to only apply to a specific model of sensor, but will still affect all sizes within that model (e.g., will differentiate between Tuxedo and TuxedoA, but not between TuxedoA size 1 and TuxedoA size 2) [use Manufacturer Model from Misc Tab]
- Modality restrictions - This restricts the RTF to only apply to a specific type of image, distinguishing between panoramic, cephalometric, intraoral, etc... (based on modality settings of hardware and capture settings, if a panoramic is captured as an IO then the RTF will treat it as an IO) [use Modality from Image Tab]
- Dimension restrictions - This restricts the RTF to only apply to images of a specific sizes (supply resolution and select 'smaller', 'equal', and/or 'larger' check-boxes) [use Resolution from Misc Tab]
- Taken date restrictions - This restricts the RTF to only apply to images taken during a specific time-frame (supply date and select 'before', 'on', and/or 'after' check-boxes) [use Acquisition Date from Image Tab]
- Color scheme restrictions - This restricts the RTF to only apply to images of a specific color pallet (select 'grayscale' and/or 'color' check-boxes) [use Photometric from Misc Tab, if it doesn't say 'Grayscale' then it is probably color]
- Tooth and Species Restriction - This restricts the RTF to only apply to images taken on specific teeth (provides a tooth chart to select teeth from, can pick between adult and deciduous or human and veterinary using the Tooth Control Options button) [use Teeth from Image Tab]
- To edit an already existing rule, single-click on the rule to highlight it and click on the Edit Rule button
- Make any changes necessary to the Real-Time Filter Rule (quick link back up to the restrictions summary) and then click OK
- To delete an already existing rule, single-click on the rule to highlight it and click on the Delete Rule button
- Select Yes on the prompt asking if you are sure that you want to delete the rule, and now the rule has been permanently deleted
- Once finished creating/editing/deleting Real-Time Filter Rules, select the OK button at the bottom to return to the Image Enhancement screen of XVCapture/DCV
